New HypnoBirhting Classes in New York Are Forming Now

I have been getting inquiries so I want to introduce you to our next class and your future ideal birth experience via HypnoBirthing The Mongan Method.

MorrinBassMentoring.jpg
Morrin Bass, PhD, HypnoBirthing
ChildBirth Educator,
New York Awareness Center
The program consists of five group sessions for couples, two-and-a-half hours each.  You and your partner will be given personalized instruction based on the HypnoBirthing curriculum designed by Marie Mongan. This is the real deal.

You will be taught to use the power of your mind, to be free of the fear of chidbirth that has, unfortunately, been programmed into every woman for the last 150 years.  You will learn to stay connected with your baby before, during, and after the birth event.

Your partner will learn how to be able to stay involved and know exactly what to do to support you at the most important event in a woman's life.

There is a class forming now, and there is a limited amount of space. I never teach more than 3 couples in each class.  This way, you get personal, and effective instruction, and I can make sure your personal needs are accomodated. This offer is only for Moms who signed up for the affirmations. So put your name in the box on the left.

Don't lose any time!

Watching The News Before Sleep?

Some of you may know that I teach HypnoBirthing classes from a scientific perspective, so there is no questions left out, and you feel absolutely comfortable with your preparation. As a neuro-scientist, and HypnoBirthing educator, I always emphasize to the moms and dads-to-be in class, how important it is to incorporate relaxation into their daily routine of HypnoBirthing® preparation exercises.

Recent studies at the Hunter College in New York show a virtual reality project introduced to a control group.
The scientists introduced photographs of nature, animals and peaceful scenes for a period of time and then a series of scenes of violence and abuse. The report was very telling. The information last seen before sleep is retained by the brain and circulated in our consciousness for the next 8 hours. So whatever you are watching before sleep - make sure it is not the news, action movies or thrillers.

Instead, science suggests, take a walk around the block. Walk to the nearest corner and back, take a few deep breaths, listen to the silence, birds, or smell the flowers. Notice when the baby in you is moving around, and when the baby is calming down. Listen to the signs from the baby. Dream about the perfect birth. Stay calm and fantasize that all is well. Your baby is listening to your thoughts. Make sure your thoughts are good ones.

CO-SLEEPING

Every night millions of mothers and babies the world over sleep close to each other, and the babies wake up just fine.  Instead of alarming conscientious parents, sleep advisors are teaching parents how to co-sleep safely.
From a show-me-the-science doctor, a cosleeper in his family with kids on his own Dr. Bill and Martha Sears  advise new parents to consider the following:
  • Cultures who traditionally practice safe co-sleeping, such as Asians, enjoy the lowest incidence of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
  • Trusted research by Dr. James McKenna, Director of the Mother-Baby Sleep Laboratory of the University of Notre Dame, showed that mothers and babies who sleep close to each other enjoy similar protective sleep patterns.  Mothers enjoy a heightened awareness of their baby’s presence, what I call a “nighttime sleep harmony,” that protects baby.  The co-sleeping mother is more aware if her baby’s well-being is in danger.
  • Babies who sleep close to their mothers enjoy “protective arousal,” a state of sleep that enables them to more easily awaken if their health is in danger, such as breathing difficulties.
  • Co-sleeping makes breastfeeding easier, which provides many health benefits for mother and baby.
  • More infant deaths occur in unsafe cribs than in parents' bed.
  • Co-sleeping tragedies that have occurred have nearly always been associated with dangerous practices, such as unsafe beds, or parents under the influence of substances that dampen their awareness of baby.
  • Research shows that co-sleeping infants cry less during the night, compared to solo sleepers who startle repeatedly throughout the night and spend 4 times the number of minutes crying. Startling and crying releases adrenaline, which can interfere with restful sleep and leads to long term sleep anxiety.
  • Infants who sleep near to parents have more stable temperatures, regular heart rhythms, and fewer long pauses in breathing compared to babies who sleep alone.  This means baby sleeps physiologically safer.
  • A recent large study concluded that bed sharing did NOT increase the risk of SIDS, unless the mom was a smoker or abused alcohol.

"My Baby Birth Was The Best Day Of My Life!"

"My baby (name) birth was the best day of my life! My wedding was the most beautiful day of my life, and my baby's birth was the best day of my life!"

My conversation with the mom, who took my HypnoBirthing class in March of 2011 and a month later gave birth to a beautiful vigorous baby-boy, my conversation with her lasted about 40 minutes, and I was not talking much at all.

The excitement of her speech was obvious. The day she remembers is still very vivid in her memory, and in her description. She is noticeably very happy, 8 months later.

Outlining her perspective on the birth day itself, the mom pointed out specifically that:

1 - PREPARATION is very important. It is not what you do on the day of the labor, it is what frame of mind you HAVE BEEN so far, and how your beliefs are shaped. Your practice of relaxation, breathing, being available in your mind to the flexibility of the events of the day. What you do on the day of birth is almost automatic. It is important that you know what to do without thinking, this is where previous weeks/ and in her case - months of preparation is important.

2. - Having your support system in place: prepared husband, and midwife/doula. People who can keep you focused and also know what to do.

3. - Having a belief that you can do it - give birth, keeping the positive attitude and keeping a bigger picture in mind - at all times.

"Your help, your knowledge and expertise was one of the most important things that happened for me in preparation to my labor. Thank you for all your advice."

Let me know if you have any questions. Comment in the box below.

Do You Communicate With Your Baby?

Do you ever consider talking to your unborn baby? If you do
What would you want to say?

I know, for those of you who are already in the second or third trimester, it is obvious. You probably often refer to the baby, talk to the baby, whispering how much you love to your baby, and the baby moves in response. And all the while you are wondering, what is behind your belief that your baby is a real person.

Apparently, the baby really responds to you.

In my recent hypnotic work, which I conduct with pregnant mothers, who want to communicate their love to the unborn baby, the work shows coherent information. Mothers-to-be show greater appreciation to the presence of their baby after such sessions, and what's more important they gain confidence in their ability to give birth comfortably and calmly. Spiritual sessions alleviate fear of childbirth and give a mother confidence in her spiritual, mental and physical ability to give birth.

In a recent session, a mom was curious to establish a connection with her unborn baby. Quickly, she was able to find her baby waiting for this connection. Mom did not know who the baby is, boy or girl, and in a hypnotic awareness asked to communicate with the baby's soul. A beautiful young girl came out and spoke wisely to her mother-to-be. She looked like an angel in her late teens and had a flowing white transparent robe on. Although the feeling the mother had was of loving and peaceful presence.

She gave mother some health advice, named particular exercises to do, and recommended particular foods to eat, with specific nutritional qualities, and in the end relayed some messages to her brother-to-be, whom she loves and who is now almost 2, and her father and what to do when the mother is in labor to enjoy the time. There was so much concrete information, that the mother just could not have known, coming to my client through her daughter-to-be consciousness,  all of which I recorded for her, that the mother was amazed about her wisdom and her decisions. They were talking about the daughter's decision to choose the mother, and how it made sense for her, because of the mother and daughter purpose, which was also specified.

Transcending fear of birthing, the daughter took the mother through each step in labor and talked her through the process of contractions (what we call surges), and what position to be in so it feels good and so the labor is going to be fast. "Just get plenty of rest over that big Weekend." Aha! The weekend!

Mom mentioned after the session that the information is all so vivid and true, she'd be really interested to see if indeed it is a girl she would give birth to. Moreover, she mentioned that she felt extremely ready for the labor, as she had all the information she needed, and living through a vivid representation of contractions, she was sure the labor was going to go well.

So it did.  Quite a few weeks later, one Monday morning, I got a text from the new father that the labor was great and that mother and daughter are doing well.

What does this tell you?!!

Are you communicating with your unborn baby?
Are you attuned to the important information the baby is sending to you?
Are you ready for your smooth and calm labor?

Let me tell you the secret how to get ready for your labor.
The next set of HypnoBirthing classes in preparation for your calm and comfortable birth, as you desire, pre-holiday intensive starts December 7. Pre-registration is open click here.

Cord Blood

Collecting blood from the baby is not really a correct procedure, although extremely popular in hospitals.

Here is an article shared by a midwife who over the years of her work collected blood (click here to read the full article).

The baby comes out of the mother's womb with about 1/3 of the baby's blood supply. Why take the blood that belongs to the baby away from the baby complying with the hospital procedure?

"After birth the blood from the placenta transfers to the baby, assisting transition to breathing. ...Parents need to be informed that cord blood collection requires premature cord clamping, and that the blood being collected belongs to their baby." Comments the author.

What Time Of Day Will Your Baby Be Born?

What's your guess, when will your labor begin?

When student moms start their HypnoBirthing class with me, I ask them to use their imagination planning their birth and describe it.  One of the moms described her labor start at 11:30am, on a Saturday. Actually,  her labor began on Saturday morning, but very early in the wee hours.

So what does research show us? Why so many of the family lore includes rushing to the hospital at 3 a.m.?

Chronobiology is a relatively new profession. It studies the human body rhythm throughout life, on a yearly basis, and from month to month, day to day and throughout the day. Part of this study includes the rhythm of our body throughout the day, called circadian rhythm, and even in much smaller increments, throughout the hour, called ultradian rhythm. Without taking you into semantics of the titles let me explain the research showing that spontaneous labor in human starts around and after midnight.

Birth is a body's natural progression, so as soon as mother enters into a safe mode of rest in a safe place, the baby knows it is a good time to come out.  A study in 1979 on labor of more than 200,000 women shows that 20% more babies ar born between 2-6am than between 2-6pm. Later studies involving 2 mil. women support night birthing.

Studies also show the same progression for second and third babies. Additionally, same studies show that on average the length of labor for those starting laboring at night take 2 hours less than those starting labor after dawn.

Speaking of hospital births, be aware, that most artificially induced births happen on a Tuesday, and none on weekends. Doctors schedules usually greatly contribute to this pattern.

Natural births occur more often on Saturday or a Sunday, according to a study in 1997 involving births among the US women.

If you want to know more about your body learn to give yourself positive suggestions. When you are tired, rest, when you are emotional, relax. Relax more often than before pregnancy or more often during the day. Listen to your body and  it will pay you off handsomely during peaceful labor.

Morrin is available for further information and discussion of your personal preparation to your labor.

Start your labor naturally

When your day comes  - How do you start your labor NATURALLY?
There are ways to encourage labor along naturally, however, the most effective solution proved to be relaxation and hypnotherapy. When you begin to feel the first signs of labor, encourage it with your skilled prepared tools:

  • Start with breathing and relaxation. Your husband is a skill specialist in it by now:)
  • Go to a long walk in the park, or up and down the stairs, do some physical exercises
  • Acupuncture/ Acupressure/ Reflexology/ Aromatherapy with a professional
  • Raspberry leaf tea/ spicy foods
  • Make sure you have eliminated any emotional lingering issues and limitations that may be dragging from your past.  Thoughts of limitations must be stopped by using a thought stopping technique: Each time a "bad" thought comes is, say out loud "STOP!" and replace it with a thought of relaxation.
  • Use Birth Release script from your HypnoBirthing course.
  • Make sure all the issues related to your organization of your birthing day are finished.  Save yourself some time and organize it now.
  • If you feel you need a boost in your relaxation schedule a session with your hypnotherapy professional for yourself or your husband or both.
  • And start of labor is mostly all about hugs and kisses. Kissing and stimulating the areas of sensitivity, nipples, light touch massage, tickling the skin, all bring up the levels of oxytocin that help start the labor full speed.
  • Get yourself into relaxed state, where the more you relax the more your muscles can get on with doing their job of thinning and opening.
  • Use peaceful visualisations you’ve practiced, such as the opening flower bud, hot air balloon and birth release.
  • Don’t dismiss sex as a pleasurable option to start your labor.  What got you into this situation,  can get you out of it. It may be the last thing on your mind at 40+ weeks pregnant, but semen contains prostaglandin which will start thinning your cervix. In fact, a synthetic version of prostaglandin is used to induce labor, so why not give a good go to the real thing?  I am no one to remind you that it is ok to make love when you want to.
  • And finally, remember to ask your baby to cooperate, explaining why it would be good for them the healthy aspects of natural birthing. Tell your baby how much you’re looking forward to meeting them, holding them, and what you’ve done to prepare for their arrival. You already learned that your mind is very powerful. They will pay attention to you, after all you are their mother!
  • Last and not least,  remember to use SELF HYPNOSIS. I can't tell you how many times I keep hearing form moms that this self-hypnosis helped her dilate and save her birth from being induced artificially, so you could have a wonderful experience of the peaceful safe and natural birth that you desire.
I am available to speak with you.
I wish you a peaceful calm healthy birth that you want!

"Dear Morrin,
...we had our baby girl, , on April 13th! She was born at 6:09 am after about 7 hours of beautiful and easy "labor." I used Hypnobirhting breathing and led me through imagery throughout and I never "pushed." came out just perfect and there was NO BLOOD, NO TEAR, and even NO SWELLING. swam out of me in the birthing tub into 's hands and he brought her right up to my chest. The cord was cut much later and we just sat and marveled at her beauty. Our daughter (3 3/4 yrs) watched the whole thing and even had her hand on my shoulder while emerged. To have this imprint of what birth can be on 's brain brings me so much joy. Having this kind of birth has been a gift for our whole family. Thank you for your instruction and encouragement." Orianna, 33

Midwife and Doula in HypnoBirthing Birth

What's a Doula?

The word doula comes from the Greek word meaning "woman caregiver."

The word is now used to describe a trained labor companion who provides the woman and her partner continuous emotional support, physical comfort and assistance in obtaining information before, during and just after childbirth.

Labor support consists of helping a woman develop her own rhythms and rituals, providing distractions with breathing patterns, comforting touch, varying positions, use of a birth ball, warm or cold compresses, vocalization, visualization, relaxation, or whatever is needed to provide comfort.

Every birth is a unique experience and she will work with you to modify and vary comfort measures as desired and needed.

Know the difference between a midwife and a doula.
A midwife provides prenatal care, delivery of the baby, care of the mother post-partum and newborn care. The midwife is responsible for the safety of mother and baby. Some kinds of midwives also provide family planning, annual exams, and other kinds of well-woman gynecology.

Certified doulas do not provide any kind of medical care. For instance, they would not listen to the baby's heart beat or do a vaginal exam or deliver the baby. However, a doula is instrumental in providing emotional and physical support for the laboring woman and her family (husband) and/or post-partum care of the mother and baby. Doula care has been shown to improve outcomes for both moms and babies shown through many studies.

doula can specialize in assiting you at just your baby birth, or post-partum (after the baby arrival) care of mother and baby, or both. A birth doula stays with you throughout your labor, no matter how many hours it lasts, and leaves after the baby arrives.

Many doulas know massage techniques, or belly casting (making a cast of your full belly for decoration at home), or know to prepare your placenta after delivery to take as pills to eliminate post-partum symptoms, or prenatal yoga they can show you, HypnoBirthing relaxations, lactation consulting, photography or videography of birthing or after birth, etc. Call up a couple of them to find the one who is available and again, who 'clicks' with you: she will be your hand-maiden in your birth room, and will keep you and your husband comfortable.

The post-partum doulas can stay  with you (a new mom) longer, or come after the baby arrives, for a few hours a day, to clean up, take care of you, teach you to breastfeed the baby, and how to take care of the baby, some will shop and cook for you.

If you choose to want to find a post-partum doula who takes care of you after the birth, please connect with her in advance as well. Doulas' experience is reflected in amount of births she attended and the price she charges.
How to Hire a HypnoBirthing Doula?

A doula can greatly enhance your experience of childbirth and the postpartum. Your HypnoBirthing birth doula will be at your side along with your care provider and partner, as part of your team for continuous support during labor and birth. Or maybe you’d like a postpartum doula to help you through the transition into parenthood and family. Either way, finding a good fit for you and your family is critical.

A doula’s education, training, experience and credentials are important. When doulas have DONA International certification, you know that they have had the best education and training available. You can also be assured that they have a strong sense of professionalism and integrity.

Also important is doula's experience. Many doulas attended hundreds of births and have enormous wealth of knowledge and practical experience. Some have just started. Their pricing will depend greatly on the experience and confidence in assisting you in the birth that you want.

You will also want to consider whether you and your partner feel comfortable with an individual doula. You will need to feel that this doula is supportive of your hopes and expectations about labor, childbirth and parenting, in addition to having a strong professional background and credentials. That is why we recommend the following four-step hiring process when hiring a birth or postpartum HypnoBirthing doula.

Morrin Bass specializes in training hypnoBirthing doulas for moms specific needs. Certification classes are offered at New York Awareness Center.

HypnoBirthing Affirmations for Stages of Labor

Between surges during thinning and opening phase

Assume relaxation, drift away into relaxation
Every muscle limp and at ease; feel the calm and peace
Body limp with total relaxation and peace
Turn your birthing over to your birthing body
Relax and trust your body to know what to do
So calm; so comfortable; so at peace
Mother and her body, working in total harmony

During surges—said softly but with more emphasis and direction

Body totally limp; go with your breathing
Trust your body; long, deep breaths
Fill the balloon; give it a color; fill it higher, higher
Breathe up, up, up; fill that balloon—SLOW breath up
See your soothing color and go deeper into relaxation
Body limp; arms limp; legs limp
Breathe up only from your birthing body
Opening with each new sensation
Body limp; shoulders limp; chest relaxed
Breathe one long breath; work with your baby
Baby and mother working together
Long, slow breath up
Release and relax downward now

During Birth Breathing—lovingly

Breathe love down to your baby
Breathe your loving energy down to the baby
Mother and baby working together to bring this miracle
Clear the path; make it smooth and easy
Follow the lead of your baby and body
Open the path for your baby
Nudge your baby gently down to birthing
See the petals of the blossom opening gently
Body following your baby’s lead
Gently, softly, breathe love down to your baby
Path now open and smooth
Baby slips down and out, easily, smoothly
